Habitat for Humanity
Unclaimed Baggage was the first corporate sponsor to partner with the local branch of Habitat. Employees were given a paid work day off to participate in the inaugural home construction project. We continue to regularly support Habitat’s mission.
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing decent, affordable homes for impoverished people throughout the world who are homeless or live in inadequate housing. Through volunteer workers and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, respectable homes.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. Families or individuals who will become the homeowners work alongside other volunteer laborers in the construction of their home. Habitat sells these houses to the partner families at no profit and finances them with affordable loans. Monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat homes.
Habitat houses do more than provide a roof over someone’s head. Permanent housing can provide safety and stability for children, and improve a family’s sense of dignity and pride.

Helping Thousands See Clearly
09- 2-2011
We get thousands and thousands of reading, sun and prescription eyeglasses each year. Out of all the eyeglasses that we receive we donate thousands of these pairs to our local chapter of The Lions Club International for their Sight First program.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged The Lions Club to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And they accepted. They in turn, spend countless volunteer hours assessing the glasses and determining what type of prescription they are. They are then carried to different parts of the world, where the Lions volunteer their time and resources to provide quality vision care in desolate areas.

Unclaimed Baggage is proud to be a major donor to this wonderful program. Do you know anyone who has benefited from The Lions Clubs’ Sight First program?
