Joni & Friends
Unclaimed Baggage donates wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes to Wheels for the World, one of the flagship programs of the Joni and Friends International Disability Center. Every wheelchair donated by Unclaimed Baggage goes through a complete reconstruction.
Volunteer inmates at correctional facilities across the United States refurbish these wheelchairs to “like new” condition. In the process, they learn teamwork and the mechanical skills required to produce a product that makes a difference in someone’s life.
The rebuilt wheelchairs are shipped to developing countries, where physical therapists fit each chair to a needy disabled child or adult. In some of these countries the cost of a wheelchair can equal a year’s wages, making it almost impossible for people affected by a disability to ever receive one. Through Wheels, they receive a wheelchair that meets their individual needs. This process of restoration and distribution allows Joni and Friends to change lives one wheelchair at a time.

Helping Thousands See Clearly
09- 2-2011
We get thousands and thousands of reading, sun and prescription eyeglasses each year. Out of all the eyeglasses that we receive we donate thousands of these pairs to our local chapter of The Lions Club International for their Sight First program.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged The Lions Club to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And they accepted. They in turn, spend countless volunteer hours assessing the glasses and determining what type of prescription they are. They are then carried to different parts of the world, where the Lions volunteer their time and resources to provide quality vision care in desolate areas.

Unclaimed Baggage is proud to be a major donor to this wonderful program. Do you know anyone who has benefited from The Lions Clubs’ Sight First program?
