Operation Christmas Child

UPDATE!  We had a busy and successful collection week for 2011. We are so thankful for all the generous donations of shoeboxes filled with delightful things that children all over the world will receive.  This year we collected over 2000 boxes!

Operation Christmas Child is an outreach program of the Samaritan’s Purse, a non-denominational organization that has served the poor, sick and suffering worldwide since 1970.

In 2010, a record year, 8.17 million children received shoe boxes filled with simple necessities and gifts in the U.S. and around the world. Since 1993, OCC has distributed the shoe boxes in over 130 countries.

Every Christmas season, Unclaimed Baggage serves as a resource and collection center for shoeboxes to send to Operation Christmas child.

Helping Thousands See Clearly

09- 2-2011

We get thousands and thousands of reading, sun and prescription eyeglasses each year. Out of all the eyeglasses that we receive we donate thousands of these pairs to our local chapter of The Lions Club International for their Sight First program.

In 1925, Helen Keller challenged The Lions Club to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." And they accepted. They in turn, spend countless volunteer hours assessing the glasses and determining what type of prescription they are. They are then carried to different parts of the world, where the Lions volunteer their time and resources to provide quality vision care in desolate areas.

Lions Club Eyeglass Donation

Unclaimed Baggage is proud to be a major donor to this wonderful program. Do you know anyone who has benefited from The Lions Clubs’ Sight First program?
